“I don’t think they have an edge over us,” Zesco United coach on Royal AM of South Africa

Zambia’s sole representative in the CAF Confederations Cup, Zesco United football club coach, Numba Mumamba believes his team is good enough to conquer South African side Royal AM this weekend when they clash for the first leg match at the Moses Mabhida stadium.

Speaking in an interview, Numba expressed confidence that his side will be able to pick up a positive result away as his team is good enough to compete favorably in the CAF Confederation Cup.

“Another challenging encounter playing against Royal AM from Durban, I think from the progress that we have seen from the team, I believe we have a team that can go there and get a positive result,” He said.

Mumamba also emphasized that the only way they will reduce pressure going into the return leg is to beat the South Africans at their home ground.

“For now all what we need is to plan well, and go to South Africa we fight hard and comeback with a victory so that by the time we will be playing the return leg, we could have reduced pressure on ourselves,” he added.

Zesco’s opponents, Royal AM had a good start to this year’s CAF Confederations Cup after they beat Mbabane Highlanders in the first preliminary round of the qualifiers to set up a date with the nine-times Zambian Champions.

However, Mumamba thinks they do not have an edge over his team despite their recent achievements.

“I don’t think they have an edge over us despite them playing the first games of the competition. I think we have also played six league games which have put us in a better position to get the three points. I think the team is ready and we just need to go there with our heads up,” Mumamba said.

United will on Sunday kick off their CAF Confederation Cup campaign against the South Africans with the aim of rekindling their past continental glory after suffering an early exit last season when they were booted out in the first round at the hands of Eswatini’s Royal Leopards in the Champions League.

The Ndola giants are the only club remaining in CAF continental competitions after the reigning Super League Champions Red Arrows fc bowed out from the Champions following a 2-1 on aggregate loss to to Angolan side De Agosto.
