Pyramids FC have won the 2024–25 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League, defeating Mamelodi Sundowns 2–1 in the second leg of the final and 3–2 on aggregate, following a 1–1 draw in the first leg held a week ago in South Africa. This marks Pyramids’ first-ever CAF Champions League title, and they become the fourth Egyptian club to win Africa’s most prestigious club competition.

The Egyptian side, founded in 2008, took the lead in the 23rd minute through Fiston Mayele, who has been outstanding throughout the tournament, finishing with 9 goals. Despite Sundowns’ determined efforts to respond, the first half ended with Pyramids maintaining a 1–0 lead.

In the second half, Ahmed Samy extended Pyramids’ advantage in the 56th minute with a brilliant diving header from a free kick. Although the South African champions continued to push forward, they were only able to pull one back in the 75th minute through Iqraam Rayners.

Sundowns fought until the final whistle, but it was too little, too late. Pyramids held firm to secure a historic victory and claim continental glory.

As runners-up, Mamelodi Sundowns, who last won the CAF Champions League in 2016, will now shift their focus to the upcoming 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, set to kick off on June 14, 2025, in the United States.
