Zambian champions Power Dynamos have progressed to the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League, defeating Asec Mimosas 5-4 on penalties following a 1-1 aggregate draw.
Power Dynamos entered the second leg in Abidjan with a 1-0 aggregate lead thanks to Innocent Kashita’s first-half goal in the first leg at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium. However, they failed to score in the return leg and conceded in the 53rd minute, with Fofana leveling the aggregate score for the home side.
With the match tied on aggregate after regulation time, it went straight to a penalty shootout. Power Dynamos converted all their spot-kicks, while Lawrence Mulenga became the hero by brilliantly saving Romaric Amoussou’s penalty to secure the win.
Power Dynamos will now face Vipers FC of Uganda in the next round, with a place in the group stage at stake.
In the CAF Confederation Cup, Zesco United overturned a 2-0 first-leg deficit to thrash FC 105 of Gabon 5-0 in the second leg, advancing 5-2 on aggregate to the second preliminary round.
David Simukonda, Kabaso Chongo, and Alex Ngonga scored in the first half, while Kelvin Kampamba and Amine Hiver added to the tally in the second half, the latter converting a penalty to seal a comprehensive victory.
Zesco will now meet Botswana’s Jwaneng Galaxy in the second round over two legs.
Both the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup second preliminary matches are scheduled for 17th to 19th October 2025.
