After losing 2-1 to Namibia’s African Stars last weekend in the first leg, Power Dynamos laced up their boots for the second leg at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on Saturday.

A lot was at stake for the Zambians, who were making their return to continental football after an 11-year absence.

Mwenya Chipepo’s men did just about enough to secure the much-needed victory. Congolese striker, Andy Boyeli, slotted home the only goal of the game from a penalty kick.

Power Dynamos showed a lot of intent from the beginning. Joshua Mutale had a fantastic opportunity to break the deadlock, but his attempt made no difference.

The Kitwe-based side continued their quest for a goal but lacked the finishing touch to beat the keeper.

In the 28th minute, Dynamos were awarded a penalty, and Boyeli sent the visiting keeper the wrong way to level the aggregate scoreline at 2-2 in the 30th minute.

African Stars had a few chances of their own, with the closest being Uetuuru Kambato’s shot which goalkeeper Lawrence Mulenga pulled off with a brilliant save.

The African Stars came out guns blazing in the second half, but unfortunately, Prince George Koffie’s men couldn’t quite find their breakthrough as the 1991 African Cup Winners’ Cup champions held to their advantage.

The Zambian Champions showed a lot of maturity in defending their lead and did so spectacularly. They will now face a tricky test against Simba Sports Club of Tanzania next month.
