There is a new wave in Malawi football as Walter Nyamilandu Manda has lost an election for the first time since 2004.
Nyamilandu lost to a new entrant in Malawi football, Fleetwood Haiya who is heading Super League of Malawi as president.

Haiya won an election by 23 to 13 votes in an election which happened in the northern part of Malawi yesterday.
He described the victory as a dream come true after it was declared that he had defeated Nyamilandu, who hasn’t lost an election since 2004.
“He has been a FIFA member and now a CAF member, he has been the president for 19 years, his vast experience can help us. So, I will be reaching out to Nyamilandu for advice,” he said.
“We need to rebuild our positive history, and I will work with everyone who is willing to support the game.” Nyamilandu had a plan to develop our game, this is why we will not leave him.” he added.

In conceding defeat to Haiya, the long-serving FAM president, Nyamilandu said he is leaving the office a happy man.
“I am leaving the FAM presidency, a happy man”-Nyamilandu.
Asked if he will still be part of Malawi football, Nyamilandu said he needed to allow the new committee to work.

“There is time for everything, I need to give them space to work. I am leaving the office a happy man, I came in the office when there was nothing, but I am leaving it with a lot of developments to show,” he said.
