Bushiri reveals his displeasure with Malawi FA after COSAFA snub

“We thank him for accepting our apology. Others claimed that maybe FAM does not want to work with Goshen, that is a baseless accusation,” Fleetwood said.

Prophet Shepherd Bushiri did not get the chance to meet the victorious Scorchers in September of last year, despite his support for the Malawi Women’s Football Team.

By way of the Goshen Trust, Bushiri provided assistance to the Scorchers when he made available MK60 million sponsorship deal to the Football Association of Malawi (FAM).

Part of the money, MK29 million went towards the Scorchers’ trip to 2023 Women’s COSAFA Cup, while MK10 million was for allowances for the Scorchers.

Malawi went on to win the historical COSAFA Women’s title, but the team did not meet the prophet when they got back home.

“We wanted to have the Scorchers and celebrate with us but we could not be given that chance even when we organized everything,” he said.

He added: “This is not my first time, back in 2017 I supported the Flames [Malawi National Men’s Football Team] with around MK70 million but after the tournament we could not meet the team. “It seems the relation is only on problems and not on victory.”

FAM president Fleetwood Haiya said the team was meant to meet Bushiri following their triumph in South Africa.

“We thank him for accepting our apology, while others claimed that maybe FAM does not want to work with Goshen, that is baseless,” he said.

Bushiri has provided MK21 million to support the nation’s first-ever Goshen City Women’s Championship. Additionally, he gave the Scorchers MK10 million in recognition of their Cosafa Women’s Championship victory.
