Malawian club FCB Nyasa Big Bullets has issued a strong warning to supporters involved in chasing players and the head coach, as well as vandalising the team bus.

The chaos unfolded on Sunday after the team surrendered a 3-1 lead to draw with Karonga United at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre — the home ground of Big Bullets.

Frustrated by the result, some supporters stormed the dressing room area, chasing after players and head coach Peter Mponda.

However, upon realising that Mponda and the players had already been escorted away from the dressing room, the fans turned their anger toward the team bus, damaging it in the process.

Police attempted to intervene and protect the vehicle, but were largely unsuccessful in stopping the damage.

Bullets statement

The club has since issued a statement strongly condemning the violence and hooliganism displayed by the group of unruly fans, who also threw missiles onto the pitch.

“As a club built on the values of sportsmanship, perseverance, professionalism, and fair play, we unequivocally denounce such behaviour. Football must always be the winner, regardless of the result. There is no justification for damaging property or threatening players and team officials.

“These acts undermine the progress we have made in creating a safe and welcoming environment for all supporters and risk bringing the club, its sponsors, and partners into disrepute,” reads part of the statement.

The statement, signed by Chief Executive Officer Albert Chigoga, also reminded fans that the club has open communication channels where grievances can be raised constructively.

“The club will not stand by and allow a few individuals to tarnish its name. We will work closely with law enforcement agencies to investigate and identify those responsible for these incidents, ensuring appropriate action is taken,” it added.

Big Bullets currently sit second on the league table after 15 games, trailing rivals Mighty Wanderers by just one point.

Earlier this season, the club won the Airtel Top 8 Cup after defeating Silver Strikers.
