Bafana Bafana Head Coach Hugo Broos has challenged all players left out on the final squad to face Panama in the upcoming international friendly matches to step up.
Hugo Broos named his 23-man squad for the upcoming two international friendlies against Panama later this month.
South Africa will play a FIFA World Cup preparatory friendly match against Panama on Friday, 27th March, at the Moses Mabhinda Stadium, before playing the second match at the DHL Stadium in Cape Town on Tuesday, 31st March.
Broos dropped in-form Orlando Pirates goalie Sipho Chaine, but recalled Mamelodi Sundowns player Themba Zwane.
He included Germany-based defender Ime Okon alongside Mbekezeli Mbokazi.
On the other hand, Sundowns midfielder Jayden Adams and Renaldo Leaner of Sekhukhune have been roped in.
Speaking during the press conference, according to SAFA.NET, Coach Hugo Broos explained the omission of some players.
“Everybody will be omitted when they don’t perform. I want to see him (Sipho) with us. I want to see him at camp because it’s not only on the pitch but also outside the pitch, and we will see,” he said.
The Bafana Bafana boss clarified the decision to exclude winger Mohau Nkota.
“When you talk about Mohau Nkota, I think he’s in a very sad period for the moment. Four weeks ago, I think he lost his father; he also lost his position in the team in Saudi Arabia. So, psychologically, he’s not really in good shape, and I think it will not be good from our side to take him with the team and ask for performances,” he added.
