Zambia drawn into Group G with Ivory Coast for AFCON 2025 qualifiers

The draw for the 2025 AFCON qualifiers has been done, with Zambia placed in Group G alongside reigning champion Ivory Coast.

The draw for the Morocco 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers took place on Thursday afternoon at the SuperSport studios in Johannesburg, South Africa.

48 countries have been divided into 12 groups of four teams each to compete for a spot in the finals.

Zambia’s Chipolopolo Boys were placed in Group G, alongside reigning champions Ivory Coast, Sierra Leone, and Chad.

Zambia’s Chipolopolo Boys have been drawn into Group G for the 2025 AFCON qualifiers.

The Chipolopolo will look to return to the AFCON finals next year after a disappointing campaign in the 2023 edition, where they were eliminated in the group stage after losing 1-0 to Morocco and drawing 1-1 with DR Congo and Tanzania.

Morocco, the hosts, has been placed in Group B alongside Gabon, the Central African Republic, and Lesotho, while Nigeria, the previous losing finalists, will face Benin, Libya, and Rwanda.

The qualifiers will begin in September 2024 to determine which 24 nations will compete in Africa’s biggest event.

The tour, which was originally scheduled for June of next year, has been rescheduled for December 2025, with the final performance taking place on January 18, 2026.
