‘Malawi not in group of death and can qualify for AfCON’— Kinnah Phiri

Phiri tells BolaNews that Malawi can qualify for the AFCON ahead of Senegal and Burkina Faso, whom they have been drawn against in Group L.

Kinnah Phiri, Malawi’s football legend, believes the Flames are not in the group of death and that with proper preparation and selection, they can qualify for the 2025 Morocco Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Phiri, who played and coached for the Flames of Malawi and helped the team qualify for the AFCON in 2010, believes Malawians should band together to find the best ways to help the team finish first in the group.

Malawi is in Group L along with Senegal, Burkina Faso, and Burundi, and many Malawians believe their team has no chance of finishing in the top two and qualifying.

Phiri, Malawi’s all-time leading goal scorer with 71 goals in 115 games, stated that for Malawi to qualify in 2010, they had to overcome big teams such as Guinea, Egypt, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), so they have a chance to qualify from Group L.

“We managed to stop Egypt, beating DRC and Guinea and we qualified, that was a group of death. This time you have Senegal, Burkina Faso, and Burundi, we have a chance of qualifying.

“We just need good preparations, good selection and motivating our players. We have a huge chance of qualifying and it is possible,” said Phiri.
