Broos Unhappy Despite Bafana Bafana Win Over Ghana in AFCON Warm-Up Match

Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has admitted he was unimpressed with his team’s performance despite edging Ghana 1-0 in their final practice match played on Tuesday at Dobsonville Stadium.

A lone strike from Sipho Mbule in the 57th minute proved enough to hand Bafana victory in the encounter.

The match marked South Africa’s final assignment before turning their full attention to the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

South Africa are expected to depart for Morocco on Wednesday night as preparations intensify for the continental showpiece.

According to SABC Sport, Broos acknowledged that his side failed to impress despite the positive result.

“I am not happy with the result, but we won the game. We didn’t really play a very good game; there was not so much movement in the team—what we are used to—and the passing was not good, so there is still a little bit of work for us to be really on those highest levels for next week,” he said.

“I expected a little bit more from my team today, a better game, but that can happen. I remember two years ago it was terrible also against Lesotho the last game we played, so that gives us hope,” noted the coach.

Broos not worried

Despite the concerns, the Belgian tactician remains confident his team will be ready when the tournament begins.

“I am not worried about that, but I am sure that the boys will be ready for next week against Angola. It’s nearly every time the last games before the big tournament the players don’t know really what they have to do to go for 100 percent or be a little bit careful,” added the coach.

The 1996 African champions will be making their 12th appearance at the continental showpiece as they seek to lift the AFCON trophy for a second time.

South Africa will open their campaign on Monday with a Group B clash against Angola.
