Former Kaizer Chiefs forward Khama Billiat, who now plays for Yadah Stars, has come out of retirement to announce his return to the Zimbabwe national team ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The 34-year-old announced his shocking international retirement in November 2021.
Billiant has returned after reviving his career in the Zimbabwean league.
“This season has been among the best phases of my football career. I have played on grand stages, but nothing beats expressing myself in front of my people,” Billiat said in a statement.
“Every time I step on the turf, I am motivated to do my best for my team….And the thousands who love this sport.
“I feel I still have something to give to Zimbabwean football, locally and internationally. I have been reflecting deeply, and I am convinced there is one chapter which remains unfinished—between Khama Billiat and the Zimbabwe national football team.
He added, “I have reconsidered my decision to retire and would love to represent my country one more time. I will continue to work hard on the field and hopefully help the nation in a positive way
I love my country and stand ready to serve if afforded a chance.”
Warriors get new kit sponsors
Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) Normalisation Committee has secured an US$80,000 kit sponsorship for the Warriors.
The Warriors are set to play in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers next match. They will come up against Kenya and Cameroon, with both matches set to be played in Uganda.
In a statement, the ZIFA disclosed that they have signed a sponsorship contract with Betterbrands. The jewellery firm is owned by Harare-based Scottland Football Club founder Scott Sakupwanya.
According to ZIFA, Betterbrands Gold is now the national team’s official kit sponsor for the Africa Cup qualification campaign.
Zimbabwe open their Group J AFCON qualifiers with an away fixture against Kenya on September 4, 2024.
The match will be followed by another tough assignment against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon on Tuesday, September 10, with kickoff set for 18:00 CAT.
