Chirundu United Football Club’s head coach, Mannaseh Chilekwa, has revealed that the team intends to win the 2024 ABSA Cup Round of 16 match against FC MUZA on Saturday at Lusaka’s Nkoloma Stadium.
The Border Boys defeated Katete Rangers 3-0 in the preliminary round, earning a spot in the round of 16 against 2023 losing finalist MUZA.
In an interview with BolaNews, Chilekwa described MUZA as a big team, but his side is preparing to face them.
“We want to qualify for the next round,” Chilekwa said. “FC MUZA is a big team; we cannot underrate them. We have planned to give them a good game.”
Chilekwa believes that the team is capable of beating any opponent if they remain determined and stick to the game plan.
“We have to prepare adequately because we have a huge mountain to climb. FC MUZA has young players with energy, so it will be a good but tough game.
“What is important is to focus on the game. I tell the players that football is one and equal, regardless of the division. The only thing is to work hard and remain disciplined,” he stated.
Chilekwa, who has previously served under now-MUZA assistant coach Cosmas Mujika, has warned that the Borders Boys are not only participating but are aiming for the top prize.
“We are here to compete and not just participate, and trying to beat MUZA is one of our main targets.”
He added, “It is a local derby because we are both from Southern Province. MUZA is like our sister club because we normally play friendlies there.”
