South Africa’s senior U20 men’s national team, Amajita, have qualified for the round of 16 of the 2025 FIFA U20 Men’s World Cup after defeating the USA 2-1 in their final group match on Sunday evening. Amajita finished second in Group E with six points, edging out the USA on goal difference. They will now face Colombia in the knockout stage on October 8, 2025.

Nigeria also advanced to the round of 16, drawing 1-1 with Colombia to secure a spot as one of the four best third-placed teams. The Super Eagles will take on Argentina in their knockout match.

Meanwhile, Morocco topped their group and will meet South Korea in the round of 16, while Egypt was the only African side eliminated from the tournament.

Amajita’s group-stage performance was impressive, recording two wins and one draw, marking only the second time South Africa has reached the knockout stages since their debut in 2009 in Egypt. The team now aims to progress beyond the round of 16 as they continue their quest to make a deeper impact in the tournament.
