The partnership between Bolabet and the University of Zambia marks an important moment for student engagement, sports development and responsible betting awareness on campus. The collaboration reflects a shared commitment to student wellbeing, talent development and community participation during orientation week and beyond.

UNZA Orientation Week
Bolabet set up a dedicated gazebo during the second day of orientation week to engage directly with returning students. The focus centred on education, awareness and open conversations about responsible gambling.
Ray Kumenda, Chief Financial Officer at Bolabet, addressed students and placed responsible gambling at the top of the agenda. “Gambling has recently become a growing concern in higher learning institutions, making awareness campaigns more important than ever.”
Clear guidance was shared with students:
- Gambling is not a form of employment
- Gambling is not a source of income
- It is purely for entertainment purposes
- Only money one can afford to lose should be used
Students were urged not to use tuition fees or bursaries for betting and to move away from the idea of quick wealth through gambling.
Gambling Addiction and Mental Health
The campaign did not shy away from serious realities. Rising cases of addiction and suicide linked to betting were openly discussed, reinforcing the need for early intervention and support.
Addiction often grows in silence. Students were encouraged to speak up and seek help through the counselling centre at UNZA if they felt overwhelmed.
Peer pressure, the high cost of living and the desire for fast money were highlighted as common triggers. The message remained consistent throughout the ceremony. Students were reminded to pursue sustainable and professional ways of earning income rather than relying on gambling.

Sports Sponsorship and Student Participation
As part of the partnership, Bolabet is sponsoring upcoming university tournaments in:
- Football
- Basketball
- Netball
This support promotes active student participation, teamwork and campus unity through sport.
The tournament final will take place tomorrow. Bolabet has sponsored the kits for the teams, so students and sports fans are encouraged to attend, show support and enjoy the action. Bolabet has extended access to Bola Radio to UNZA students who are interested in:
- Sports commentary
- Journalism
- Communication
- Broadcasting practice
The platform allows students to gain practical experience, develop confidence and showcase their talent in a real media environment. Student leadership and the wider student body have been invited to take part and sharpen their skills.
The collaboration between Bolabet, Gameid and the University of Zambia aims to reduce suicide cases, address gambling addiction and build a well-informed student community.
