The former England and Liverpool FC midfielder has been dismissed just 11 months after succeeding Dean Smith at Villa Park.
Aston Villa posted a message on their website confirming Gerrard has been dismissed as their manager.
”Aston Villa Football Club can confirm that Head Coach Steven Gerrard has left the club with immediate effect. We would like to thank Steven for his hard work and commitment and wish him well for the future,” read the club statement.
Gerrard led Villa to a 14th place finish last season after joining the team from Rangers and signed a three and half contract.
After Last night’s defeat to Fulham, he expressed confidence that he will be able to save his job but minutes later the club announced his sacking.
The English media is now reporting that former Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino could be heading to Villa Park to replace Gerrard while Thomas Tuchel who was recently sacked by Chelsea FC and former Burnley coach Sean Dyche has also been linked with a move to the club.
Aston villa are 4th from the bottom with 9 points from 11 games played so far.
