Nine-times Zambian champions, Zesco United are still without a win following a nil-all draw against ten-man Mighty Mufulira Wanderers in a Week four fixture at Ndola’s Trade Fair ground on Sunday.
Zega Mambo started the campaign with a draw against Kabwe Warriors and a defeat to in-form Green Eagles, current Stream B log leaders with nine points.
Speaking after the match, Zesco United head coach Mwenya Chipepo described the result as painful, saying his team had hoped to take advantage of playing at home to secure all three points.
“It’s a very painful result, that we were playing at home. We wanted three points. I’m very disappointed,” he said.
Chipepo admitted that although Zesco United had created scoring opportunities and performed well in other areas of the pitch, their inability to convert chances remained a major concern.
“We are failing to score, which means the technique of it, not the performance. We are doing everything in the back, midfield, but when it comes to the bench, we are doing nothing there,” he said.
“They need to work extra hard” – Chipepo.
Chipepo also described the team’s start to the transitional campaign as poor, warning that dropping points in the opening round could make it difficult to recover in the second round.
“This is a transition game [season]. We are only playing about 18 games. So if you don’t pick points in the first round, then it becomes very difficult for you to pick other points in the second round,” he said.

Despite the disappointing run, Chipepo expressed confidence in his players, urging them to work harder and respond positively in their next fixture.
“The team just has to pull themselves up, because they are good players. They are playing good football, but they just have to work extra hard,” he said.
