The 2026-27 summer transfer window is all but concluded.
We turn our attention to Zambian players, particularly those plying their trade abroad, to evaluate the moves they have made ahead of an exciting season.
BolaNews rates the transfers of foreign-based Zambian stars based on whether they are a move in the right direction (HIT) or a backward step (MISS).
Kings Kangwa (Hapoel Be’er Sheva to Panathinaikos)
With 12 goals, 11 assists, an Israel Premier League title, the Israeli Player of the Season Award, and an induction into Hapoel Be’er Sheva’s Hall of Fame, Kangwa was in god mode last season. His attacking exploits earned him a move from Israel to Greece, as he joined Panathinaikos for €3.8 million on a four-year contract.

Kangwa ditched the Ligat Ha’Al, ranked 24th in Europe, for the Stoiximan Super League, which is the 12th best league. This is a significant upgrade for the playmaker, who will also be teammates with Moroccan midfield genius Azzedine Ounahi while competing in the UEFA Conference League league phase.
VERDICT: HIT
Patson Daka (Leicester City to Hamburger SV)
In the aftermath of an underwhelming campaign with Leicester City in the EFL Championship, which saw them get relegated to the English third tier, Daka left the club as a free agent. He tallied 29 goals in 165 matches during his five-year stay in England, winning the FA Community Shield and Championship.

The Chipolopolo marksman joined Hamburger SV in the German Bundesliga, earning a move to one of Europe’s top five leagues. He signed a one-year contract with an option to extend a year and will fancy breaking Andrew Sinkala’s and Christopher Katongo’s records of three goals by a Zambian in the German top flight.
VERDICT: HIT
Lameck Banda (US Lecce to Al Swehly SC)
After signing a contract with US Lecce in somewhat controversial circumstances, Lameck Banda decided to call it quits. A jaw-dropping revelation from the player fresh off scoring a club high five goals and four assists to save them from relegation.

After exiting the second-best league in Europe, Banda now plays for Al Swehly SC in the Libyan top flight, which doesn’t rank among Africa’s top 10 leagues. Nothing anybody could have predicted.
VERDICT: MISS
Ghampani Lungu (Siwelele FC to Orlando Pirates)
The winger became a cult hero among Buccaneers fans after scoring a hat-trick against their rivals Mamelodi Sundowns last season.

He told BolaNews in May that he would work on adding more goals and assists to his name in the 2026-27 campaign, and he delivered.
He has four goals and an assist in seven matches, claiming the August Player of the Month Award (POTM).
VERDICT: HIT
Frankie Musonda (Bahrain FC to St Albans City)
After struggling with Bahrain FC in the Bahrain Premier League last season, Musonda parted ways with the club. Bahrain FC had the most porous defense in the league, shipping goals left, right, and center.

However, the choice of club by Musonda after leaving the Middle East raised a few eyebrows. The defender returned to St Albans City in the English 7th tier. Two seasons ago, he was battling for promotion to the Scottish Premiership, highlighting the sharp decline in the 28-year-old’s career.
VERDICT: MISS
Songa Chipyoka (Hapoel Petah Tikva to Moreirense)
The biggest move by a Zambian player this transfer window, Chipyoka signed for Portuguese side Moreirense on a five-year contract. They paid about €800,000 to Hapoel Petah Tikva. The Zambian winger now plies his trade in one of the six best leagues in Europe.

He recorded nine goals and four assists in 28 matches across all competitions last season.
VERDICT : HIT.
