On Friday, the Zambia U-20 junior Chipolopolo boys opened their COSAFA U-20 AfCON qualifying journey with an emphatic 2-0 victory against neighbors Malawi.
Next for Zambia is Comoros on Monday, and a win will see them secure a place in the semi-finals of the competition.
The 2017 former African champions were eliminated in the group stage of the competition last year.
And U-20 head coach, Perry Mutapa, hopes his young lads will step up their performance in the next match of the group against Islanders, Comoros.
The Zambians put up an impressive performance against young Flames of Malawi and will seek to continue with their winning momentum in their next match.
Speaking to FAZ media in an interview, Mutapa said the morale in camp is high.
“The morale in camp is very high, and we are happy that we collected the three points in our first game. Most of the times the first game is always difficult. We are happy for the positive start,” he said.
“The overall performance of the game in the previous match was good. So going into the next game we hope we will be better than we did in our last game,” added the coach.
The Green Eagles head coach urged fans to rally behind the boys.
“Fan’s back home should provide support to the boys. It’s not easy putting on the National Team jersey,” concluded Mutapa.
Group winners and the best-ranked second-placed team will advance to the semi-finals of the competition.
