The Malawi Women’s National Team have stormed into the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) semifinals for the first time in their history, securing a historic qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Malawi, who topped Group C ahead of Nigeria, Zambia and Egypt, came from behind in the quarterfinals to beat Ghana 2-1, with goals from Temwa Chawinga in the 12th minute and Rose Kadzere in the 79th minute cancelling out Chantelle Hlorkah’s seventh-minute opener.

Lovemore Fazili’s Scorchers join Cameroon, who earlier in the day defeated defending champions Nigeria 1-0 to book their place in the semifinals alongside hosts Morocco and Algeria.

Malawi will face Algeria, while Morocco will take on Cameroon for a place in the final, where a new African champion will be crowned in Rabat on August 16.
