Chiyangi worried by Green Buffaloes’ blunt attack

Chiyangi says the club must urgently improve its striking department after managing just five goals from their top scorer, as the team prepares for a high-stakes military derby against Red Arrows.

Green Buffaloes head coach Aggrey Chiyangi has admitted that his side’s lack of firepower remains a major concern, saying the club will prioritise strengthening the striking department after the season ends.

“The striking department is one of the areas we are looking at very seriously. When your top scorer has only five goals, it does not give a good picture. If you can’t score goals, you cannot win games, so we must address that,” Chiyangi said.

Despite the concerns in attack, Chiyangi insists Buffaloes cannot afford to lose their final MTN Super League match of the season against Red Arrows on Friday at Nkoloma Stadium.

Buffaloes head into the final fixture sitting 12th on the table with 41 points, while Red Arrows are second on 60 points.

Speaking ahead of the clash, Chiyangi said his side has prepared adequately and understands the magnitude of the military derby.

“We‘ve prepared very well for this game, especially since it is a military derby. We know how it is, and the players do not want to lose. We know it is going to be very tough, so we have made sure we speak to the players so that they are fully motivated,” Chiyangi said.

Chiyangi has also challenged his players to quickly move on from their disappointing defeat in Kabwe and focus entirely on ending the season strongly.

“We have told them to forget about what happened in Kabwe and focus on the next game. As much as we lost that match, I think the players did their best and pushed hard even though we could not score. Now the focus is on the game ahead of us,” he said.

The Buffaloes coach expects another high-intensity contest similar to the first-round meeting, which ended in a draw.

“We have psyched them very well because the intensity will be very high. But we also want them to play with a free mind and not be under too much pressure because that can lead to mistakes. We want them to play as a team because that is what is important.”
