Power Dynamos kicked off their second preliminary round strongly with a 1-2 away win in Uganda against Vipers SC to put one leg into the group stage of the CAF Champions League.

After a tightly contested first half, Vipers broke the deadlock through Yunus Sentamu in the 48th minute, before Power Dynamos responded five minutes later through Kenyan international Moses Shumah.

Vipers defender Derrick Ndahiro succumbed to the pressure, inadvertently putting the ball into his own net in the 78th minute, giving Power Dynamos the victory.

Power Dynamos’ head coach, Osward Mutapa, says the team will make sure they get the job done at home, despite heading into the second leg with an advantage.

“Difficult game, we are a team that is on a mission and we came to get a result. We have to do the job back home in the second round, this is not the end of the game we have second half to play. It’s an important result that we wanted to get from here as we go back,” he said.

Mutapa continued: “A very big boost in terms of our qualification, we have given ourselves a benchmark we need to play group stages of the Champions League, but this is not the end of it we have 90 minutes to play, which will be the second half in Zambia.”

The second leg will be played this Friday at the Levy Mwanansa Stadium in Ndola. Power Dynamos will need only a draw to advance to the group stage of the Champions League for the first time.
