Saliya Mwanza, Copper Queens defender, says Zambia is targeting three points from Saturday’s encounter against the Super Falcons of Nigeria at the ongoing Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Zambia, who won bronze after beating Nigeria at the 2022 WAFCON edition opened the 2026 campaign with a resounding 6-0 win over Egypt, while defending champions, Nigeria suffered a shocking 3-2 loss to Malawi.

In an interview, Mwanza noted that Nigeria’s defeat in their opening Group C match will make them come out with full force against the Zambian team.

“We know that Nigeria will come out to try and get maximum points over us because they were beaten by Malawi, but we will be prepared for them,” she said.

“The win is now behind us. Going into Saturday against Nigeria, we are also looking for three points in that game, and they are also looking for the same, so it is not going to be an easy match. They beat us the last time, but we will not allow that again.”

Mwanza also talked about her WAFCON debut for the senior team.

“At first I was nervous, but I had to overcome that fear. I’m excited to play at the WAFCON; it is every player’s dream. The senior players are encouraging us young ones,” Mwanza said.

Nigeria will be aiming to rebound from their defeat against Zambia; they can seal qualification to the next round with a win on Saturday at 22:00.

In the other group match, Malawi will take on Egypt at 19:00.
