Lameck Banda, a head coach for Mufulira Wanderers, has admitted that his side is struggling at home after suffering a 1-0 defeat to Chirundu United at Shinde Stadium on Sunday.
The result marked Wanderers’ second defeat of the season and their second loss at home in four matches.
The legendary cup winners have recorded two goalless draws away from home, a contrast that has left Banda questioning why his players appear more comfortable on the road than at Shinde Stadium.
Reacting to the turn of events, Banda said Wanderers failed to start the match as planned, with some players falling short of expectations in the first half.
“The game was not that good because we started very low. We had intentions of starting on a high note, but I think certain players, especially in the first half, did not do as expected,” Banda said.
He explained that changes made during the match helped improve the team’s performance after the break, but the improvement was not enough to prevent Chirundu United from taking all three points.
“We need to work extra hard” – Banda.
Banda said the technical bench is addressing experienced shortcomings.
“It’s something that we need to figure out because away we seem to be there. We play so well away, but at home we are struggling,” he said.
The coach called on his players to work harder on the training ground and improve their performances as the season progresses, warning that continued struggles could affect the team’s campaign.
“I think we just need to go and work extra hard. Like I always say, football is about planning,” Banda said.
He added that the team needed to raise its level, particularly at home, as the matches continued to come.
“We haven’t done well, more especially at home. We need to lift up our game, things might not be well for us,” he stated.
