Power Dynamos coach Oswald Mutapa says his club’s immediate target should be to dominate the Super League before they can think of conquering Africa.
On Thursday, Bolanews reported that club chief executive officer Gibson Chaloba had challenged the club to win the Champions League, drawing inspiration from the class of 90 that won the Confederation Cup.
Mutapa, who guided the club to their eighth league title in the just-ended season and is set to lead them in the Champions League, has provided a bit of context to his CEO’s comments.
“The CEO [Chaloba] mentioned something about conquering Africa. To me, we cannot conquer Africa before we dominate our own. We have to dominate the Zambian League before we conquer Africa,” Mutapa said.
The former Chipolopolo assistant coach said dominating Zambia should be the interim goal.
He also said that going into next season, there is a need to boost his squad.
“We are going on two fronts, the Champions League and the League itself…so when we knock on the sponsors’ doors, it means we really need to because we need to beef up the team if we are to compete at that level.
“That is only when we can conquer Africa…Yes it is possible if we work together. It comes with a bit of sacrifice,” Mutapa said.
