Zanaco FC has confirmed the appointment of Numba Mumamba as their new head coach, alongside Noel Mwandila as his assistant. The two join the Bankers from Kabwe Warriors.
Mumamba, a former Zanaco player and coach, returns to the club after a successful tenure that saw him lead the team to the 2016 Zambia Super League title and the 2017 ABSA Cup victory. Under his guidance, Zanaco also reached the group stages of both the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup, marking significant achievements on the continental stage.
Joining Mumamba and Mwandila in the coaching staff is Dabid Chilufya, who will take up the role of assistant coach. The trio has signed contracts that will keep them at Zanaco for the next two and a half years.
Zanaco is currently 15th in the league standings with 17 points, and Numba is expected to help the bankers avoid relegation.
“It is a big challenge” – Mumamba
The team has been led by interim coach Dabid Chilufya, who took over after they decided to part ways with Wedson Nyirenda early this season after a string of poor results that included eleven games with only one win.
“It is a big challenge that I have decided to take, and I know I am equal to the task. I have seen how the team has been performing lately, and it is the defense we need to work on. We have been scoring, but our defense has been bad…. And if we improve on that, then we will be good,’’ Mumamba said after being unveiled on Wednesday.
Mumamba has been impressive this season in the Super League, propelling the Kabwe Warriors into the top four in the standings, where they are third with 30 points after 18 games and also secured qualification for the 2025 ABSA Cup.
Meanwhile, BolaNews sources have indicated that Kabwe Warriors are already in the process of identifying potential replacements for Mumamba. Perry Mutapa and George Chilufya have been mentioned as strong candidates to take over the coaching reins at Kabwe Warriors.
