The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has been ordered to pay more than K6 million in National Pension Scheme Authority (NPSA) penalties.

According to the Zambia Daily Mail, the Lusaka magistrate, Constance Kasankala, also asked  FAZ to pay a K400 fine, failing which general secretary Reuben Kamanga will be imprisoned for one month.

Furthermore, the court ordered FAZ to pay K437,806.98 in contributions to NAPSA by January 31, 2025.

NAPSA sued FAZ for failing to remit pension contributions.

As a registered contributing employer, FAZ was assigned an account with the authority and was required to make deductions at a predetermined rate.

FAZ was in charge of deducting and remitting employee earnings to NAPSA, as well as the association’s portion for pension contributions.

Rueben Kamanga, the association’s secretary general, was in court representing FAZ, which was charged with three counts of failing to pay statutory contributions to eligible employees.

FAZ is accused of failing to remit contributions and associated penalties from January 11, 2014 to January 2024.

When the case was called, the prosecution amended the charge before Kamanga, who pleaded guilty and asked for leniency.

FAZ was fined a non-cumulative K400 in all three counts, while the over K6 million penalties are to be paid in three installments.
