Kabwe Warriors assistant coach, Derick Mulenga was pleased with his team’s performance during Saturday’s 1-1 tie with reigning champions, Red Arrows at Nkoloma Stadium.
Speaking in a post-match interview, Mulenga praised his players for holding their own against tough opposition.
“We were playing champions, ABSA Champions League champions, Charity Shield champions. It wasn’t easy coming here, but it’s good we managed to collect a point. For us as a team, it’s good for the boys. We just have to continue fighting,” Mulenga said.
Warriors took the lead in the second half through Francis Banda, who struck just before the hour mark.
Their advantage lasted only 10 minutes as Angel Lubamba equalized for the defending champions.
“I think we had chances that we could have killed the match, but they also had moments. It’s football—you make mistakes. I think they got a goal from the mistakes that we made,” he added.
Mulenga admitted his side had chances to secure the win but conceded that mistakes cost them.
The draw kept Kabwe Warriors at the top of the league table, but a win for Zesco United against Green Eagles on Sunday could see them displaced.
Mulenga remains optimistic, focusing on the positives and addressing areas that need improvement ahead of their next fixture.
“Kudos to the boys—they played excellent. We’ll just pick what we did right in this game and work on the mistakes we made so that we can do better in the next game,” Mulenga said.
Kabwe Warriors are keen to finish this season with a trophy after losing to Red Arrows in the ABSA Cup final the previous season.
Mulenga emphasized the importance of treating every game with seriousness as they prepare to host Indeni FC at home.
“All games are important to us. We just have to get maximum points at home because we want to fight for something,” he concluded.
