Kelvin Kaindu, head coach at newly promoted side Hard Rock Football Club, is targeting a strong start as the Zimbabwean Premier soccer league gets underway this weekend.
The Kwekwe-based side is making its debut appearance in the top-tier Zimbabwean league.
Kaindu will start his reign with a match against the defending league champions, Scottland Football Club, on Sunday.
Scottland heading into this tie with confidence after beating Kaindu’s former club Dynamos 5-0 in the season’s curtain raiser, the Super Cup last Saturday, to claim the first silverware of the season.
In an interview, from his base, Kaindu stated it will be a tough encounter against the defending champions.
“We acknowledge that Scottland are the defending champions with a very good team,” Kaindu stated.
“They started their season with some silverware last weekend but are fully focused on the task at hand. We have an opportunity and slight advantage as we are starting our first game of the season at home.”
Hard Rock will be playing their first match at the state-of-the-art Chahwanda Stadium that will officially open on Sunday.
Kaindu has kept the team’s objectives moderate, stressing the goal is to stabilize and maintain their status.
“We are a young team in the league; we will fight to maintain our status in the season while maintaining a competitive edge against all the clubs in the league,” he concluded.
