Zesco United took a giant step towards qualifying for continental football with a 1-3 victory over Nchanga Rangers at Nchanga stadium in Chingola this afternoon.
Goals from Collins Sikombe and Denis Nya ensured that the Ndola based side, went with a comfortable 2-0 lead at the break. And in the second half, Kelvin Kampamba got the third goal for the visitors while Andrew Phiri, pulled a consolation goal for the host fighting relegation.
The victory takes Zesco United up to 49 points at par with Napsa stars, who lost 1-0 to Nkana in Kitwe, but Zesco have a better goal difference.
And Zesco United assistant coach, Tenant Chilumba, described the victory as excellent, as it will take pressure off his side, which also ended Nchanga’s home ground unbeaten record.
“Excellent result, we played well, I think we are in a position now, pressure is now not there,” he said during a post-match interview.

Chilumba, however bemoaned lack of concentration from his side, which he said they have been working on.
“I’m disappointed, we wanted a clean sheet but of course, in the last minutes, the team lost concentration. These are the last games so we shouldn’t be conceding goals, we are still working on the permutations, we want to score more goals.” he explained.
What was Zesco’s target for this season?
“We are facing Nkana at home, that’s a crucial game as well, they are also fighting to finish on a good position but of course our focus is to finish in the top four and if you look at the log now, it’s open for everyone to finish in the top four.” he said.
