Power Dynamos have officially won the 2022/23 MTN super league title for the first time in 12 years following a 2-0 victory at Forest Rangers, with Frederick Mulambia and Owen Tembo scoring a goal in each half.

Dynamos needed just a point to secure their seventh league title, with two games remaining to close the season. During the campaign, the ‘Aba Yellow’ have won 16 matches, drawing 14 and only losing 2 times so far.

The victory for Power Dynamos, which clinched the championship last won in 2011, also made Dynamos coach Mwenya Chipepo happy.

“We are happy to win, especially here at Dola hill stadium, I remember last time we lost to Forest Rangers, we could have lost twice to them, it wasn’t an easy game, we fought hard, they played good football, they have good players, and they are a good side, so to pick three points from here wasn’t easy,” he said during the post-match interview.

And Chipepo, said that despite winning the league with two games to spare, they will not relax but keep working hard to create competition in the team.

“Like I said, there is no time for us to relax, we are going for another stage, all what we need is to make sure that we become more serious for the coming season, because we need to recruit some players, you know the more you recruit the will be competition and the more they will become serious, you know we don’t want someone to become comfortable, what we need is to bring in more players so that they compete,” he said.

Is Power Dynamos ready for continental football?

Chipepo said that he needs to improve the squad for them to compete favorable in Africa.

“Like I said last time, when I was interviewed, we are still rebuilding the team, at the moment the team is not ready to play continental football but their is still room for improvement, all what we need now is to start building the team for continental football, I’m sure we have good players, yes in the league they are okay but that’s another stage, I have seen they way our colleagues are playing in the champions league, we just have to make sure that we make a very strong team that will compete” he said

Power Dynamos now lead the table with 62 points and the champion-elect will host Prison Leopards in their next fixture at Arthur Davies stadium.
