Wedson Nyirenda has guided Zanaco football club to league survivor, from what could have been an embarrassing demotion to a side well sponsored in the super league. The bankers secured this on the backdrop of a draw between Lumwana Radiants and Nkwazi.

At Nakambala stadium in Mazabuka yesterday, Zanaco went down 2-1 to FC MUZA, a surprise package in the league, who have since qualified to CAF Confederation cup, on a first attempt in topflight football.

A 2-2 draw between Lumwana Radiants and Nkwazi meant that both sides sit on 36 and 34 points respectively, with a match to go before the season ends. Regardless of what happens in the remaining matches, the two cannot overhaul Zanaco’s 41 points on the log.

In April, the Bankers appointed experienced former Chipolopolo boys coach Wedson Nyirenda, on an interim basis after parting ways with subpar performers of Kelvin Kaindu and Nigerian Consultant Emmanuel Amuneke.

The task was simple for Nyirenda, to do all it needs to save the Lusaka-based side from going down to the National League.

Regardless of how he achieved the job, the former Chipolopolo coach took to social media to celebrate his achievement.

Nyirenda said that it was not an easy challenge, and he was happy that Zanaco will still be in their rightful league.

“Objective achieved, not an easy challenge. It is for real men. too much stress. not much time but managed to grind something. Zanaco will still be in their rightful league. Glory to God. Thanks to all players and Coaches and all backroom staff well done,” Nyirenda wrote on Twitter.

Wedson tips FC MUZA ahead of CAF football

“Congratulations to MUZA, they have done it and we will support them in continental football,” he said during the post-match interview.

He further advised F.C. MUZA to prepare adequately for continental football and ensure that they psych their players ahead of the task.

“They just have to prepare well, continental football is way different from this local game, that one is high level football, so they have to prepare very well, they have to psych their players and if anything, they have to beef up the team,” he advised.

F.C MUZA on Saturday qualified for the Confederations Cup with a 2-1 victory over Zanaco, who will wrap up the season with an away fixture against Green Buffaloes next weekend.
