Kabwe Warriors topped the Zambian Premier League standings after defeating Zesco United 2-0 on the road at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Week 14.

It was challenging for the host team to score and attempt to force a tie because the Kabwe-based team controlled the most of the match.

Kabwe Warriors, who have won five straight games, have been outstanding since the start of the season.

The victory propelled Warriors to the top position with 28 points from 14 matches played.

After the game, Kabwe Warriors assistant coach Noel Mwandila gave the squad kudos for scoring as many points as possible against a formidable opponent.

“I think it was a difficult game you know always when you play Zesco at their turf its never easy, but I think we did well to unsettle them. The early goal I think unsettled them because we got in the 5th minute so it was a good start atleast it has put us in a good position,”he said.

“For us we take it one game at a time so we are just building on from every game that we play and you can see the progress of the team. We are not so much focused on the five games we have gone winning we are always taking one game at a time,”added the coach.

“It’s good to go top of the table, but what is important is the sustainability how long we stay there because this league is a marathon we won’t get carried away. We will just remain humble and focus for our  next game,”concluded Mwandila.

Kabwe Warriors will now face Napsa stars on Saturday at the Godfrey Chitalu Stadium.
