In April this year, MTN Super League side, Zanaco FC appointed former Chipolopolo Boys coach Wedson Nyirenda as their head coach on an interim basis until the end of the season.

This came after the sacking of head coach Kelvin Kaindu and the club’s Nigerian consultant, Emmanuel Amunike.

The two were sacked following a string of poor results which left the Bankers battling to avoid relegation in 14th place with 34 points.

Nyirenda returned to Zanaco for a second stint, having coached the Zambian Super League side from 2009 to 2011. He was tasked with ensuring that the team survived relegation which he managed to achieve.

After successfully keeping the Bankers up in the top-flight Nyirenda told bolanews.co in an interview that his future with the club is uncertain.

“I will think about it, options to remain are there,”he said. “There options also of other teams talking to me…. But I think I  have to leave it to God, I will make a decision,” he explained.

Zanaco ended the season in 13th position with 41 points on the league standings but were happy to survive relegation.

Nyirenda previously coached Mozambican top-flight side Clube Ferroviário da Beira, before joining Zanaco.

It now remains to be seen if they will offer Nyirenda a permanent contract as head coach.
