With only two matches remaining, Super League clubs will embark on a frantic period of transfer activity to strengthen their rosters and Biston Banda is already among those being sought-after.
Since joining MUZA from Power Dynamos, Banda has scored five goals in all competitions for the team, which is competing for second place to qualify for next season’s CAF Confederation.
His impressive performance has also seen him register four assists in over 12 matches in both the 2024 ABSA Cup and the Super League.
A source has revealed to BolaNews that three clubs are hoping to lure the striker from MUZA when the season comes to a close.
The frontrunners so far are continental football hopefuls ZESCO United, Lusaka-based ZANACO Football Club, and Napsa Stars.
“Yes, three clubs are interested in signing Biston Banda. The clubs are ZESCO, ZANACO, and Napsa Stars. However, they are still waiting for the season to conclude before they can officially approach his current club,” the source stated.
Banda and Mutapa could reunite
Napsa Stars head coach Perry Mutapa previously worked with the striker at Power Dynamos. The pensioners have struggled for consistency and goals in the 2023–24 Super League season.
The lack of goals saw Napsa Stars turn to on-loan ZESCO United striker Vincent Oburu, who has shown some flashes of brilliance, but it is currently not enough for the team that’s embattled in the relegation zone.
Since the departure of Kelvin Kampamba, ZESCO United has also struggled for goals, with top scorer Enock Sakala scoring eight goals this season. George Lwandamina’s side is leading the race to play in the CAF Confederation Cup and will need more firepower to compete favorably next season.
At Sunset Stadium, Charles Zulu leads the top scorers’ charts, further amplifying their attacking woes.
Meanwhile, Banda said he is focused on his MUZA for now but did not rule out the possibility of listening to offers.
“At the moment, my focus is on helping MUZA finish in second place by ensuring we win the remaining matches. I will start responding to transfers when the season ends,” he said.
