Zambia national team defender Tandi Mwape has joined Zesco United on loan from TP Mazembe for an undisclosed period.
The 27-year-old was unveiled today by the Ndola-based Zambian Super League side.
“ZESCO United Football Club is delighted to announce the acquisition of Zambian international defender Tandi Mwape on a loan deal,” read part of the club statement.
“Tandi Mwape joins ZESCO United from Congolese giants T.P Mazembe,” continued the statement. “Mwape who was also part of the Chipolopolo squad at the just-ended AFCON 2023 tournament, brings in the much-needed experience that will enhance the ZESCO United squad in their quest to secure their 10th league title
“We wish you the very best in your stay at ZESCO United Tandi Mwape.”
Mwape has returned to the Zambian Super League five years after leaving Kabwe Warriors. He joined Mazembe in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in 2029.
However, he went almost the entire year without playing for Mazembe, and many alleged that he had fallen out of favour at the club’s coaching staff, causing him to return home.
Meanwhile, Mwape has not made a cut in Avram Grant’s squad for this month’s international friendly matches.
Zambia will play Zimbabwe at the Four Nations tournament in Malawi on the 21st of March 2024, as preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Morocco and Tanzania in June.
