In a Week 24 match at Nkana Stadium, Idris Mbombo, Jacob Ngulube, and throw-in specialist Mathews Banda led a Nkana comeback victory to defeat archrival Mufulira Wanderers 2-1.
Nkana spent the first half of the 2023–24 season in the drop zone, but after this win, they have now won three games and drawn once.
Tresor Illunga gave ‘Mighty’ Mufulira Wanderers the lead seven minutes into the first half of the match.
But Idris Mbombo, headed in a Mathews Banda throw-in to give the home team a response in the 31st minute.
Banda again with his precise throw in which found captain Jacob Ngulube in the 39th minute, to score a decisive goal.
Nkana’s first assistant coach Sipho Mumbi hailed home and travelling Kalampa fans who rallied behind the team during the match.
“They (supporters) have been yearning for such results and now that we have given them this result the second time they are coming to watch a home game, it’s a very big win for them,” Mumbi said in a post-match interview.
Nkana shifts focus to NAPSA Stars.
Mumbi said the team still needed to continue pushing for more positive results focusing on a game at a time.
Wanderers’ head coach, Justin Chinama, added that his squad made two errors from two throw-ins that led to two goals, calling it a bad day for his side.
With this victory, Nkana climbed to 11th place in the league standings, with 29 points. Wanderers, on the other hand, remained in 9th place with 30 points.

Nkana’s next match is away at NAPSA Stars who lost by 3-0 to Mutondo Stars at Ndola’s Levy Mwanawasa stadium.
