Defending champions Red Arrows FC’s striker Ricky Banda is working on his fitness ahead of Saturday’s Super League match against former title holders Power Dynamos.
The Super League returns this weekend with a number of exciting games. The match between Arrows and Power is at the top of the pile because it pits a title defender against a contender.
However, Arrows may be without their most skilled player, Banda, due to an injury sustained while training with the CHAN national team this week.
Coach Chisi Mbewe confirmed this during a pre-match press conference on Friday.
“The players that will miss this game [are] Brian Chilimina [who] picked up an injury but he is back into training; Thomas had a long-term injury so is Zephaniah Phiri,” Mbewe said. “Ricky [Banda] was okay but when he came back from national duty, he had a knock, which we are trying to assess if he is going to pass the fitness test, then we see and make decisions.”
Arrows are sixth on the log with 30 points; a win against Power will send them to the top of the table if the teams above them drop points.
Mbewe said he anticipates a tough game. He said his team will have to be at its best to maximize points.
“We need to build on the good things that we did in the first round and continue working on it going forward. We just need to remain focused and ensure that we maximise the points at all costs at our home ground,” he said.
