Power Dynamos Edge Closer to League Title as Mutapa Cautions Team

With just five games remaining, Power Dynamos are closing in on their eighth MTN Super League title, but coach Mutapa has urged his team to stay focused as the season draws to a close.

Power Dynamos are edging closer to the league title after securing a 1-0 victory over Zesco today at the Arthur Davies Stadium, extending their lead to six points at the top of the table.

After a first half that ended 0-0, Power Dynamos found their breakthrough in the 51st minute through Ishmael Eddie Ankobo.

The Aba Yellow are now unbeaten in their last ten games, with today’s victory marking their eighth consecutive win.

Reacting after the match, Power Dynamos head coach Oswald Mutapa said: “Yes, [we are] one hand on the trophy but still a lot of work to be done. We still have to play to win in the other games; we can’t just say this is over. Six points difference is not too much; it’s just two games and with five games to go, we need [to win] about two or three games depending on the results of other games.”

Mutapa also cautioned his players against complacency.

“We have talked about complacency; there is no need to be complacent because we have not won anything yet. Yes, we have won games, but there is no trophy that we have won yet, so this is the time to work extra hard.”

Zesco’s Siwale not giving up

Meanwhile, Zesco’s interim coach, Emmanuel Siwale, also believes the title race is not over and that his team still has a chance to leapfrog Power Dynamos.

“It’s not a good result; we have dropped points. We wanted to win, we prepared well, and the boys played very well,” he said after the match. “I know it’s not an excuse, but we created some scoring opportunities. If we had taken advantage of that, it would have been a different story”.

Siwale added, “We have five games to go, and no one has won the title yet. This is football, so we still keep pushing.”
