Zanaco Football Club’s assistant coach, Henry Banda, admitted that the team has had a poor start this season.
The Bankers suffered their second consecutive loss on Sunday afternoon, falling 2-1 to the Green Buffaloes at Edwin Imboela.
This came after losing 1-0 at home to Atletico Lusaka last Thursday.
Zanaco suffered a late defeat against Green Buffaloes after their goalkeeper Racha Kola failed to stop Perkins Mumba’s effort in injury time.
In a post-match interview, Banda stated that the team was looking to bounce back and regretted the missed opportunities as they failed to meet their goal of at least 12 points in the first five games of the season.
“We came here to get three points; unfortunately, we lost the game. We missed a lot of chances in the second half,” Banda said. “It’s a bit worrying on our side because we wanted to do well in within five matches; that was our plan—to get at least 12 points from the 15.”
Banda attributed the defeat to an error by the goalkeeper but was quick to take the blame.
“There are more games to come; we just have to psyche the players and encourage them. Especially this one, it’s a painful defeat, losing towards the end, just an error from the goalkeeper, a lame shot that has made us lose the game, but this is football; we can lose games from the start of the season. It’s up to us and the boys to leave up ourselves so that we can forge ahead for the games that are coming,” Banda stated.
The defeat has left the Bankers in 10th position with 4 points from one win, a draw, and 2 defeats.
