Kabwe Warriors beat defending champions Power Dynamos FC 2-0 in week eight of the Zambian Super League at the Godfrey Ucar Chitalu Stadium on Sunday.

Mwamba Mutombo put the home side in the lead in the 3rd minute, before Zimbabwean midfielder Ocean Mushure made it two in the 15th minute to seal the victory.

After the match, Kabwe Warriors head coach Numba Mumamba said his team could win their seventh league title this season.

“I think we still have a chance to fight for the title,” he said in a post-match interview. “We just have to take each game as it comes. We have players that can challenge for the title. All we need is to have belief in ourselves and work hard on the pitch.

Numba said he is also eyeing the ABSA Cup

The former Zesco United coach added that Kabwe Warriors, who last won the league in 1987, are targeting qualifying for the 2024 ABSA Cup.

“One of our objectives is to be in the Absa Cup,” he revealed. “We just have to work hard so that by the time we get to the halfway mark, we will be in the top five.”

Numba praised his players for putting in a performance against Power Dynamos who only lost their second match in eight league games this season.

“The credit goes to the players for their excellent performance against the defending champions. Our aim was to get the three points in this game, which we managed to get.

“We planned to kill the game in the first half, score the two goals, and defend the two goals,” he concluded.
