No One Has Scored More Goals Than Me Since Leaving Nkana – Bwalya Voices Concern

Former Nkana striker Walter Bwalya urges the club to make changes as he worries no one has surpassed his goal-scoring record.

Former Nkana Football Club striker Walter Bwalya has called for the immediate replacement of the current club executive to help the team regain its former status.

Nkana’s struggles continued over the past weekend as they suffered a 2-0 loss away to Green Eagles.

Their only victory of the season came against Green Buffaloes, but it was later nullified for fielding an ineligible player.

The Kalampa remain winless and sit deep in the relegation zone, having accumulated only four points from nine matches — drawing four and losing five.

Bwalya, who currently plays for Cape Town FC, was named the 2016 MTN Super League top scorer, netting 24 goals in 34 matches. He left Nkana in 2019 after three seasons with the club before joining Egyptian side El Gouna SC. The Congolese-born striker was instrumental for Nkana, scoring 11 goals in the 2018 season.

“Everyone thinks when I am talking about Nkana it’s like I have a bad feeling about them or I just want to say bad things about them. No… I always say I am where I am because of Nkana,” the DR Congo striker said in a telephone interview on ZNBC’s radio sports program. “Nkana has helped me a lot in my career, and I have helped that team. If we come out to speak louder about that team, it’s not like we are jealous or we don’t love the team.”

Bwalya pointed out what he thinks should be done at Nkana:

“They need to manage everything, they need to buy quality players, and they need to pump money into the team. That team used to be on the top, one of the top teams in Zambia. I think the last time we played CAF was the time I was in Nkana; since that time, I don’t know when Nkana played CAF.”

I love Nkana – Bwalya

He also expressed concern that no one has broken his scoring record since he left the club:

“I love that team, and I always want that team to be on top. I have done great things in my career; if you look at Zambia, no one has scored more goals than me. In 32 games, I scored 24 goals.

“If my team, like Nkana, doesn’t have anyone to break my record, it worries me. They need to change things at Nkana; they need to bring people that will help the team to go high. They need to change things inside.”

Meanwhile, Bwalya dismissed claims that he had taken Nkana to FIFA over contractual disputes: “I have never taken Nkana to FIFA, so those people, they want to spoil my name, saying that Walter Bwalya takes Nkana to FIFA. I and Nkana will end up at the court in Zambia for them to give me my rights. My issues have been resolved, and we resolved everything out of court,” he concluded.

Nkana will face Red Arrows on Saturday in their Week 10 Super League fixture.
