MTN Super League side Nkana Football Club has dismissed head coach Ian Bakala following a poor run of results.

The club announced the decision on Monday after holding a meeting in Kitwe.

“Nkana Football Club wishes to announce that Head Coach Ian Bakala, along with assistant coaches Dennis Makinka and Josphat Nkhoma, have been placed on administrative leave effective immediately,” the club has announced.

The Kitwe side said the “decision comes in light of the team’s recent performance and results in the ongoing 2024/25 season.

“Further updates regarding the coaching staff and any subsequent developments will be shared as they unfold.”

Since joining the team in September of last year from Forest Rangers, Bakala’s record in seven Super League games is just one win, three losses, and three draws. The team made the decision to cut him after Saturday’s 2-1 loss to the Green Eagles.

Bakala oversaw 38 games during his one-year tenure at the team, recording 12 victories, 13 defeats, and 13 draws.

Meanwhile, the Zambia Daily Mail reports that Mwenya Chipepo and Nkana have reached an agreement to replace Bakala as the head coach.

After Sunday’s match against Lumwana Radiants, the former Power Dynamos coach is said to have already said goodbye to the Forest Rangers players. He is anticipated to be unveiled today.
