Nkana Football Club has been dealt a major blow after the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) Player Status Committee ruled to dock them three points from their MTN Super League Week 3 victory against Green Buffaloes.

The match, played at Nkana Stadium on August 30, 2025, ended 1-0 in favor of the record league champions. However, following a complaint lodged by Green Buffaloes, FAZ ruled that Nkana fielded defender Nduna Zulu in breach of player registration rules.

In a statement released on Monday, Nkana confirmed receipt of the ruling but expressed disappointment with the decision, insisting they had duly completed all registration procedures.

“We firmly believe that this outcome does not reflect the diligence and professionalism with which our club operates,” Nkana said. “The issue regarding Nduna Zulu’s registration occurred due to a system glitch in the FAZ registration process, and we are committed to seeking justice.”

The Kitwe giants have since announced that they will appeal the verdict before the FAZ Appeals Committee, expressing confidence that the decision will be overturned.

Nkana to pay K10,000 fine

Aba Red have urged their supporters to remain calm as the legal process unfolds.

“We kindly ask all our supporters to remain united during this ongoing process. Your support means the world to us, and together, we will overcome this challenge and continue to strive for excellence on and off the pitch,” the club added.

Following the ruling, Green Buffaloes have been awarded a 3-0 victory, while Nkana has been fined K10,000, payable within seven days, the Zambian Premier League has confirmed.

The decision, if upheld, could seriously impact Nkana’s campaign as they push to reclaim domestic glory. The Kitwe giants, currently 10th on the table with five points from four games, would drop into the relegation zone on two points, having recorded two draws and one win so far this season.

Green Buffaloes, on the other hand, will move into second place with 9 points.
