Nkana Football Club has confirmed that it has purchased 2,806 bucket seats to replace those destroyed by fans during last season’s Kitwe derby in April this year.
“2,806 chairs (stadium seats) delivered this morning at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium. Awaiting installation. Ba Kalampa, not again bane, we are bigger than that!” the club announced on their Facebook page and urged their fans to desist from acts of vandalism.
The chaos at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium erupted after the referee awarded a late penalty to Power Dynamos, who converted the spot-kick through Brian Kasanyinga to cancel Jacob Ngulebe’s opener in stoppage time to level the match at 1-1.
Fans were seen throwing seats onto the pitch violently, and in the process, 500 seats were destroyed.
The Zambian government, through the Ministry of Sports, then ordered Nkana to cover the cost of replacing a total of 2,806 seats by July 2025.
This order included the 500 seats directly damaged by fans and an additional 2,306 seats that were already in a “deplorable state”.
