Nkana FC claimed a crucial 2–1 victory over Zesco United in an MTN Super League Week 15 encounter played on Sunday, to start 2026 with on a positive note.
The hosts took the lead just before the break when Idris Mbombo converted in stoppage time of the first half to cancel out Kelvin Kampamba’s early opener for Zesco United, who had gone ahead in the 11th minute.
After a tightly contested second half, Nkana secured the winning goal late on through Jacob Ngulube in the 83rd minute, sending the home supporters into celebration and earning Kalampa a much-needed three points.

The win comes as a significant boost for Nkana FC, who entered the fixture struggling near the bottom of the table. Despite the victory, Nkana remain 14th on the standings with 13 points from 15 matches, but the result offers renewed hope in their fight to climb away from the relegation zone.
For Zesco United, the defeat proved costly as they missed an opportunity to push further up the table. The Ndola-based side sit eighth with 19 points from 15 matches, having now suffered another setback in their quest for a top-four finish.
At the top of the table, Red Arrows continue to lead the MTN Super League standings with 31 points, followed closely by Power Dynamos on 29 points and Zanaco in third with 27.
As the season reaches its midway point, the result highlights the growing intensity at both ends of the table, with Nkana battling for survival and Zesco United seeking consistency in the race for continental qualification.
