Zesco United goalkeeper Cyril Mwenya Chibwe has opened up on how difficult it has been to adapt in Zambia following his transfer to Super League side, Zesco United FC this season.

Chibwe who went eleven matches without playing since he joined Zesco finally made his debut in the Zambian Super League on Saturday against Kabwe Warriors in a match which saw him keep a clean sheet for his side and win the Man of the match award at the Godfrey Chitalu stadium.

He said, he was mostly criticized for not having game time but was always encouraged by the Goalkeeper coach, Jacob Banda, to wait for his time hence dedicating his Man of the match award to him.

“Credit goes to my goalkeeper coach, this I will definitely give him, because, he deserves it, he has been pushing me week in week out,” Chibwe said after receiving the man of the match award.

“There have been a lot of talks, like he is not playing and the Coach has always been saying wait for your time.”

The Zambian National team shot-stopper further disclosed that he struggled to adapt and adjust in Zambia.

“I mean coming to Zambia especially as a goalkeeper, it’s never easy, obviously lan Otieno has been very good, Gregory Sanjase has been very good, we support whoever is playing, so my chance came up and I had to do the job on the day.

” It’s not easy adapting as a goalkeeper in Zambia, there is a lot of differences between South Africa and Zambia so I am still adjusting and adapting, this is just a start for me,” concluded Chibwe.

The South African born, Zambian goalkeeper in yesterday’s game ensured the Ndola based side managed to get a point away from home when he kept them in the game with his superb saves which earned him the Man of the match award as the match ended 0-0 in Kabwe.
