Nkana Football Club of Zambia, which has won the Super League 13 times, is still winless after losing to newly promoted Mutondo Stars by one nil.
On a hot and windy Sunday afternoon at Ndola’s Levy Mwanawasa Stadium, Nkana took on Mutondo Stars in an effort to earn their first points of the year.
On the first day of the 2023-24 season, Kalampa faced Red Arrows at their temporary home, Lusaka’s Woodlands Stadium, and lost 1-0.
However, they faced a formidable side that caused an upset to Green Eagles in Choma after forcing a baren draw.
As expected, Nkana dominated in the early exchanges of the game with chances coming thick and thin in the hosts half but resulted into nothing.
Mutondo Stars’ 68th-minute goal gave the Evergreen their first win of the season and moved them up to fourth place on the log with four points from their two games since returning to the top division thanks to second-half replacement Dalitso Lungu.
At the same venue, Chipolopolo midfielder and free-kick expert Kelvin Mubanga Kampamba scored in the final seconds to give former champions Zesco United a draw against Prison Leopards in their first home game.
