Napsa Stars head coach Perry Mutapa, has attributed his side slow start to the new season to the high competitiveness teams, they have come up against so far, describing the two games they have played as challenging.

The 2021-22 Absa Cup champions lost 1-0 to Zesco United before a 2-1 defeat to Green Buffaloes in the new season.

Even though the season is still young, some major clubs have already buckled under the strain of league; the most recent example is Nkana Football Club, who have placed Beston Chambeshi to an administrative leave.

However, the former Power Dynamos coach feels that the season has just begun for Napsa Stars.

“Tough games; we started with Zesco (United) big team; Green Buffaloes were a good side last season as they were in the top two for most parts of the season but lost it towards the end. But all in all, we have lost to two good teams so far,” he said.

Speaking in an interview with Bola News, Mutapa explained that the technical bench is working on addressing errors noted on the team.

“If you review our game against Zesco United, what killed us was poor communication on the pitch while for the other game we missed a lot of chances especially in the first half,” he said.

Prior to the start of the new season Mutapa stated in an interview with BolaNews that he wanted to compete for an ABSA Cup spot in the first half of the season.

“Going forward, I am very optimistic that we will turn our chances into goals and achieve our target for the season,” he said.
