Following a 3-2 victory over Civil Service United at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre, the defending champions of Malawi’s national league, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, have recaptured the top spot.
Mighty Mukuru Wanderers, who had held onto second place in the TNM Super League with 36 points after 19 games, was overtaken by Bullets, who currently lead the league with 37 points after 18 games. With 36 points from 19 games, Chitipa United, a rookie team, is third.
With goals from their former striker Luke Chima and Binwell Katinji in the first 21 minutes of the game, Bullets had a bad start and only managed to draw one goal back through Lanjesi Nkhoma.
Ephraim Kondowe equalized the score barely six minutes after entering the game thanks to the triple substitutions made by Bullets during the second half.
At 86 minutes, the game was over when Patrick Mwaungulu, the game’s MVP, controlled the ball and sent it into the right top corner as the goalkeeper was unable to block it.
Wilson Chidati, the assistant coach for Civil, commended his players and said they played well, but they couldn’t handle the pressure.
“We had a good lead, but the challenge was that we were too confident. Bullets gave us more problems in the second half and conceded those goals. It is part of the game, we will go back and work on those shortfalls,” he said.

“Our players were looking tired, we tried to manage by bringing fresh legs. On goals we conceded it was to due to lack of concentration,” said Bullets coach Kallisto Pasuwa.
